Hortus Botanicus Haren
With over 14 hectares, the Hortus Haren is one of the largest and oldest botanical gardens in the Netherlands. All year round, there is plenty to discover in, among others, the Chinese garden, the wild plant garden, the ecological Laarman garden, a heathland area and a very diverse plant meadow.
The Hortus botanicus Haren Groningen is one of the largest and oldest botanical gardens in the Netherlands. With over 14 hectares of gardens, there is plenty for young and old to discover. Among other things, you can find the following unique gardens in Hortus Haren:
- The unique Chinese ming garden: Outside China, such a garden can only be found in Canada and Australia;
- Laarmantuin: Many plants and trees threatened with extinction grow here. The Laarmantuin is divided into a pinetum, an arboretum, a moorland and a meadow area. The Laarmantuin is included in the National Plant Collection and is a cultural historical monument;
- The Hondsrugtuin which is part of the ‘Hondsrug Unesco Global Geopark’;
Furthermore, you can stroll through the large butterfly and bee garden, among other things, and children can also discover the gardens on various treasure hunts.

Culture lovers can also enjoy the gardens. The Hortus regularly hosts festivals and other activities.
The Hortus' catering consists of the Chinese Tea House, Grand Café “De Plantage” and in the entrance hall “The Hortus Café”. There is also the Plant Shop and the gift shop which can also be visited without an admission ticket.
The Hortus is easily accessible by public transport and by car. You can park your car for free opposite the entrance.
