Walk the beautiful Mammoetpad near The Heemtuin
There’s plenty of greenery near Tripscompagnie and Muntendam. In the ‘Tussen de Venen’ scenic area you’ll be surrounded by open country everywhere you look. The Heemtuin is yet another place where nature rules: once a pasture for sheep, a natural woodland has mushroomed here. Today, the sheep still roam the scenic area, accompanied by goats. Don’t forget to visit the Culture Garden and fruit orchard that’s alive with birds, butterflies and dragonflies.
Barefoot along ancient roads
The Mammoetpad – a path through the wild countryside with a nod to the area’s native inhabitants – is part of the De Heemtuin. Take off your shoes and socks to walk beside and through the water just like the people of old used to. In this area of pure, rugged nature, feel free to use a raft or ask another daredevil to give a hand if you need one.
History for young and old
Whether you are a child or simply feel young at heart: visitors of every age come to the Mammoetpad and its environs. Adults admire the scenery, while children find one challenge after another. There’s the ditch safari, an ABC nature quest and Bosbingo.
When you’re done horsing about, plop down in one of the chairs at the Heemtuin outdoor café to warm up or cool down – depending on the season. Enjoy a local delicacy while you prepare for yet another adventure. There’s always something to do in Midden-Groningen.
