Martinichurch Groningen

The Martini Church is the oldest church in the city of Groningen. The many beautiful wall and vault paintings, the magnificent Schnitger organ make this monumental building the city's most important historical cultural heritage.

Take a look

Welcome to the Martinikerk, the heart of the city of Groningen for centuries. During your visit, we will take you through centuries of faith, history and art. You will go on a voyage of discovery along many parts of the church; from the centuries-old murals and the famous Martini organ to the colorful stained glass windows. All the stories behind these objects and parts together make the Martinikerk what it is today: a house of meeting for every Groninger and everyone who feels connected to this church.

A special element of the heritage in the Martinikerk is the series The 8 Works of Mercy painted by Egbert Modderman. These monumental paintings can be admired in the ambulatory and in the nave of the church.

The church is regularly open to visitors.  For an overview of opening hours and information about guided tours : www.martinikerk.nl
