Sealcentre Pieterburen is a hospital for seals. In the shelter you will only find animals who for whatever reason are sick, injured or are in trouble. The goal is to rehabilitate these animals and release them in their natural habitat. Visitors are welcome to take a look at the seals, take a tour behind the scenes or discover the interactive visitors center. Come along in releasing recovered seals at sea or come aboard on one of the seal watching boattrips that are organized regularly.
The Seal Centre is one of the world's leading centers when it comes to the care and rehabilitation of seals. Interns and volunteers come from around the world to gain experience or to specialize. With your visit you support the Seal Centre's work.

Our Last Year in Pieterburen
Seal Center Pieterburen is moving to the new WEC (World Heritage Center Wadden Sea) in Lauwersoog. This is your last chance to visit the center in Pieterburen! From the beginning of next year, we will move to the WEC in Lauwersoog. The seals will also move to their new home. We will remain open to visitors until the Christmas holidays, so seize this last chance to see the exhibition and relive memories.
Healthy Seal, Healthy Sea
The Seal Center strives every day to prevent unnecessary rescues because the best environment for any seal is a healthy sea. Only when an animal truly cannot survive on its own is it taken in at Pieterburen. Once recovered and strengthened, the animals return to their home: the Wadden Sea. No animal stays permanently in the center.
In the center, the team looks beyond the individual animal. They use their specialized knowledge not only to care for seals in need but also to identify problems in the habitat of their patients. Here, the seal is the indicator of a healthy Wadden Sea. What this means exactly, you will learn during a visit to the Seal Center.
Summer Holidays
During the summer holidays, we are open daily from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. We organize extra activities for young and old. Will you join us? Come relive memories and bid farewell to this special place.
