The Noordersingel in Noordbroek features a beautiful church. Displaying the very essence of the Romanesque Gothic style in Groningen, it was built in the early 14th century. Did you know that the separate Romanesque tower – also referred to as ‘Ol’ Dodde’ (old thick) in popular speech – is actually older than the church itself? In 1967, the church narrowly escaped being closed, but luckily a slim minority in the local council ensured that this little gem was preserved.
